In short, Neuro-linguistic programming is a methodology applied to an individual’s thought process and behavior to help them achieve their desired goals. NLP is the language of your own brain. It perceives that all that you do boils down to the memories, constructions, and thoughts of your mind. NLP aids in improvising your thought procedure and direct you towards the practical approach of life.

Neuro- Neurology:

It deals with the mental, physical and emotional aspects of neurology.

Linguistic- Language

This refers to the language you use to communicate with your brains. The way you control yourself.

Programming- Functioning

This lets you believe that your brain is your operating system that deals with your thoughts. Programming lets you know how your past events, your thoughts, and people affect your life.

Hence, if you undergo NLP training, it would let you be fluent to communicate with your brain. You would then be a master of your unconscious mind as well and can direct your potential perfectly.

How does Neuro-linguistic programming or NLP work?

The different interpretations of NLP make it hard to understand. NLP just tries to modify the unconscious mind of the individual to overcome his limitations. Let us understand how the NLP theory works. Our mind is made up of 2 parts: a conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious mind is what lets us decide, analyze and set our goals. Our Conscious mind also sleeps when we sleep.

But our Unconscious mind is a treasurer of our emotions and information. The unconscious mind doesn’t go to sleep with us, it is 24*7 active. Our dreams emerge from our unconscious state. Its creative, imaginative and too fertile to generate new ideas. Understand it like, Conscious mind is the person sitting at the backseat of a car. Whereas the unconscious is the one driving the car having all the resources to accelerate and navigate the vehicle. We are all connected at our conscious levels.

There lie critical filters (beliefs) between our unconscious and conscious mind. These beliefs start to grow with the child’s growth and these beliefs choose what information should stay in the unconscious mind.

Humans do not look at the world as it as but perceive the world through their map or critical filters. These filters sometimes can limit the full caliber of the unconscious mind. Say, for example, there is 2 kind of people. One who is scared of speaking publicly. Others who love to orate the public. This is all the Game of Unconscious.

Someone who fears speaking in public sees the audience criticizing and laughing at him.  Whereas, the one who enjoys it sees the audience applauding and appreciating him.

So, through NLP you can change your behavioral patterns, how you perceive your world. NLP practitioners establish a connection with the unconscious side and program it to utilize a person’s full potential. These critical filters can be bypassed and all the beliefs stored in the unconscious can be reprogrammed to make the person confident and deal with problems without any fear.

Getting deeper into how NLP works?

NLP practitioners work on the natural hierarchies of change and communication. They believe in 6 levels that can change an individual’s map of the world. Those logical levels are:

Capabilities: This denotes the skills and abilities of an individual.

Identity: It is how an individual perceives himself/herself and how they take control of roles they are ought to play in life.

Behavior: It is the specific record of actions that you do.

Spirituality: This is believed as the greatest level of change that deals with the involvement of an individual in something spiritual like religion, ethics, morals or any other system that determine the purpose of life.

Environment: This is the lowest level of change. It includes your surroundings and the people you deal with.

Your map of the world is formed by the information you receive from your senses. It can either be auditory, olfactory, visual, kinesthetic or gustatory. The quality of information that you collect and comprehend is completely dependent on your surroundings and every individual analysis their information using the primary representational system (PRS). PRS is a system that an individual uses to process various instances and experiences happening with them. This is a representational system one most commonly uses to perform basic activities of life. For an NLP practitioner, identifying a person’s PRS is an important factor for their treatment. It helps them to know how the person is perceiving their world. PRS can be identified by their various cues like body language, eye movements, and body type.

Since the inception of Neuro-linguistic programming, it has definitely helped in the treatment of an infinite range of problems including:
